Writing + Self Publishing Tips By Anna McAuley | Cessation Blog Tour

Hiii friendssss!! This week I'm excited to say I have an author on the blog. She is releasing the third and last book in her Continuing forever trilogy and as part of her book tour, she's doing a little guest post. :) She's talking about self-publishing which I honestly know nothing about so maybe I'll learn something too haha.

 Hello, friends!
My name is Anna, and I am thrilled to be guest-posting on Nabila’s blog today as part of my release tour.
I blog at Lethologica (currently under construction), and I am the author of the Continuing Forever trilogy.  I started writing the first book a few Novembers ago at the age of fifteen.  Since then, I’ve written two more books and self-published two (and am currently publishing the third and final installment!).

       That’s what I’m talking about today: self-publishing.
It seems scary when you first think of it, I know.  When I first toyed with the idea of self-publishing my books, I had no idea what to do or where to begin.  However, I played with it and figured it out as I went… and it’s turned out pretty well for the most part!  The entire process has definitely involved some trial and error, but overall, self-publishing has worked exceedingly well for me at this point in my life.  I’m very happy that I chose this path and would highly recommend it if you have a book you’re considering publishing!
That being said, there are definitely a few things you need to know before diving into the great wide wonderful (though often confusing) world of self-publishing.

  1. Research.  You will need to research everything before you make decisions involving your books.  To some, this may seem obvious, but I’m serious: Look into all of your options before deciding on one.  This applies to publishing platforms, marketing strategies, formatting tips, and pretty much everything else.  One idea might be the “norm”, but there could be an option that’s an even better choice for you and your book.  Look into all aspects of the process carefully, and, when you can, get advice from someone who’s “been there, done that” and has used a product/method/platform that you are considering.
  2. Community.  Firstly, when you announce that you’re publishing your own book, your family and friends are going to be excited- and more than likely, they’re going to want to help out if they can.  Use their generosity and interest!  Beta-readers/proofreaders.  Advanced readers.  Cover design/formatting help.  Marketing strategist.  Graphic designer.  These are all roles that your family and friends may be able to help fill so that the burden doesn’t fall solely onto your shoulders.  Secondly, be sure to reach out to other self-published authors!  Be involved in the writing community (online or local or other) as much as possible; believe me, it’s one of the best parts of being an author!
  3. Determination.  This is by far the most important.  If you’re going to self-publish your book, you’ve gotta apply fierce motivation and determination to this project.  Don’t back down!  Don’t get discouraged!  Be okay with having to try Plan B, Plan C, or Plan D (and maybe even Plan E…).  Know that there will be some learning curves, and prepare to handle those gracefully to the best of your ability!  Apply this to editing, marketing, talking about your book, etc.  KEEP GOING!

There you have it: a short summary of what I’ve learned through my self-publishing experience.  I hope that some of you aspiring authors find this helpful!  Go get ‘em!
If you want to find more of her/her book feel free to check her out at her website or insta. :)
Have you read any of her books? Have you ever thought about self-publishing? Are you a writer?

A Day In The Life Of Abigail Lennah + How She Increases Her Productivity

I AM POSTING TWICE THIS WEEK I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING DON'T QUESTION IT. I am super excited today because I have the absolutely awesome Abby formally from Ups And Downs.  She has been around for quite a while in the blogging world and her writing is literally one of my fave things ever. :) She is launching a new blog called Story-Eyed and I'm super honored to be a part of her blog tour! I absolutely love day in the life posts so get excited for this post lady's and gentleman, welcoming Abbbbbbbyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

Hi, friends! Summer is usually the time to relax and take a breather from all the stress the school year has
to offer. For me, it's the main time frame where so much gets done! A lot of my days are variable, but my
summer schedule usually falls under the same cadence. Here is what my summer days look like, alongside
some tips on how to remain productive!

9:00am -- Usually around the time I wake up in the summer! Since my family just got back from
traveling three major cities, our kitchen lacks any food stockpile, so today I settle for some oatmeal and
honey. I scroll through my phone and check emails for any updates regarding college housing and blog
tour posts.

9:30am -- Time to go and clean up my room! I find productivity to be the most efficient in a clean and
relaxed environment. Today, the culprit of the mess is my desk table, clustering a large stack of books
and some graduation memorabilia. My phone turns up to WALK THE MOON's "Surrender." I jam out to
this over the loud hum of the vacuum quite loudly, as no one is at home to hear me belt at full capacity.
Hey, if there's an empty room, why not sing?

10:00am -- I read the news and watch a TED Talk. One of the things I did my senior year was visit
classrooms and ask what the headlines were that morning because during discussions I felt behind and
wanted to improve. It's something I still want to adhere to now, to learn about what's going on in the
world as well as listen to ideas which will help change the world.

10:30am -- Well, time to go work on job applications and scholarships!

12:00pm -- Lunch with little food options available takes a form in a microwavable chicken pot pie.
Around this time, too, I end up reading and taking American Great Reads list by finishing Frankenstein by
Mary Shelley. Horror isn't my typical genre, but I enjoyed this book way more than I initially thought.

1:00pm -- My schedule becomes SUPER variable around this point until five-thirty. A lot of this stems
from what I want to do in that particular day. A majority of the time, the activities lack any access to a
computer, but today is the exception. Right now, I feel like editing and working on Story-Eyed's blog
layout, seeing as Wordpress's PHP servers and their novelty intimidate more than help.

2:00pm -- One of my friends is inviting me over to her house! I quickly finalize some of my job
applications and drive around town to drop them off before heading over to her house. We then spend the
next two hours watching the Legend of Korra all while eating ice cream, with kids clamoring around us.
It's good to go out once a day in the summertime, especially with nothing to do, because not only do
you get to spend more time with friends and explore, but it allows the ability to discern days from
each other.

4:00pm -- Something I need to do for college is reorganize all of my clothing and non-clothing essentials.
My family bought a ton of items without removing the price tag. So, I decided to bite the bullet and let my
crazy organizational skills take hold: spend the next two hours snipping away loose tags, folding the
clothes properly, stuffing them into bags with categories, and then fitting them up in my closet.
Meanwhile, Friends plays in the background, though I do not pay attention to Rachel and Ross with
marker stains on their faces.

Here's a photo of one of my friends' dogs when I went to go visit her house!

6:00pm -- Surprise! My mom brings home some food from one of my favorite local restaurants: pizza
slices with cut chicken and lots of jalapeƱos. I knawing on the food while allowing my computer to finish
processing its update.

6:30pm -- I decide to work on the blog again. This time, I focus on writing future posts and editing my
about me page. Oscillating white noise fills my headphones as I work upstairs, with so many surrounding
distractions. I tend to not use my laptop in my room because I despise being stifled and it's good to
change environments. Several drafts are composed, and I edit roughly fifty photos. It's productivity at its
finest!

9:00pm -- Several text messages sprout from my phone. They're from friends, each with their own
distinct topic. One sends me videos of Tom Holland being Tom Holland, while another sends me the
anatomy of sponges in full caps before talking asking whether or not Dash Parr from the Incredibles can
withstand the friction he makes while running (scientifically, he cannot). I quickly reply to these.

9:30pm -- I write some poetry ideas and lines dancing in my head.

10:00pm -- Right before I go to bed, I log out of all of my devices and listen to a soothing. Social media is great, but at night it brings on distraction too the point where I must physically turn off my phone and hide it in a hard to reach place. Honestly, by
doing this, it makes sleep easier to come by.

10 Teen Bloggers You Need To Follow

Hellllloooo friends! Today I thought it would be super fun to share with you guys some of my fave teen bloggers. I have met so many amazing bloggers during my time as a blogger! I say blogger a lot. A couple of them have left and deserted me *cries* BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT OF THE POST. I know personally at the very beginning when I started blogging I was first terrible and second I just felt alone. I was like 9. I didn't know any other bloggers my age. Sooo for all of you teen bloggers out there here are some awesome bloggers your age. Before we get started though this a collab with the awesome Amaris from Amaris Elizabeth! Make sure to head over to her post after you read this one! Keep reading if you want some more awesome blogs to follow (mine, of course, you should already follow).

Lexie (I'm pretty sure) is the only blogger I knew at the beginning that is still blogging and I love her! On her blog, she talks about a lot of things including books, lifestyle, and reviews. I really like her personality and just everything she does on her blog. Plus she also started a charity??? At age ten??? And she's now like 13?? And still has a charity?? I feel like I haven't done enough with my life??

Kristian aka Buttercup aka my twin (but not actually someone was wondering haha) is super cool! I met her on Insta a couple months ago now and I'm super happy about it! Her motto "is to encourage others to be themselves," which I love of course!  Plus she has a youtube channel! We're also friends which is super fun.

I love Taiya's blog and design and pictures. Everything just seems kind of perfect! Her blog is all about giving advice to other teens and she posts lifestyle, diy, and fashion!

I love Kate's blog so much!! She always has the cutest outfits ever. They're creative and I'm just like how do you own all of this adorable clothing???? Like???? Questions????

The amount that Abbie is amazing is just like. How can you be that cool of a human being? She's a writer and blogger and Youtuber and musician and waffle queen and just such a kind and down to earth person. Plus her motivation for just life is one of the most inspiring things. I basically just want to be Abbie is what I'm saying.

I put Abbie and Kenzie in the same category of people who are amazing and I really want to be but I probably won't be able to because I'm just not that nice. Mckenzie's personality is contagious and I feel like she's always smiling. Plus she actually talks to me. I know. Shoutout to her for replying to my insta stories and commenting on here!

Ok so I'm pretty sure Kara is technically an adult but I'm still including her because at one point in the very recent future she was a teen so it counts. Her blog is just so.... real. She's super transparent and when I read her blog I almost feel like I'm in her mind or her diary, I'm not sure. She also talks about Christianity a lot and I really like reading her thoughts on everything.

I read Tolly's blog all the time a while ago and I just recently found it again! She's a fashion blogger and one of the absolutely coolest ones out there! She is all about ethical fashion and talks a lot about buying things second-hand and sustainability. I have learned so much about the fashion industry and how some things really need to change from her blog. Plus her outfits are just cool.

Vanessa is also kind of an adult because but it's also ok. I have been reading her blog for a while which I low key did not realize when I found her on Instagram. I thought she was someone else honestly lol. But she is the one and only Vannessa! Both her blog and insta and other blog really inspire me to be healthier!

I remember that fateful day sometime last year when Ella launched her blog. A cool day. Probably. I don't actually remember that day. What do you think I have superpowers? She is super sweet and also a fairy. I mean what could you not like about that? I feel like a lot of times people do how to's but they just aren't that helpful or maybe they don't feel real. Ella's posts aren't like that. Here is an example of what I'm talking about.

There are so many more people I want to include so if you want another post like this make sure to comment down below!

Do you know any of these bloggers? Who would you add to the list? Should I do another post like this but instead of bloggers, YouTubers?

2018 Summer Bucket List

I am officially out of school for summer AND AHHHH SO EXCITED ABOUT IT!! This also means I have finished 7th grade and will be going to 8th grade next year. That means thinking about high school and being the biggest peeps on campus and worrying about tests.... BUTTT before that happens I have 3 months off which I am pretty happy about it. I have done summer bucket lists in the past and I personally liked them so why not do another one this year?? This could be a good way to get inspo for your own list or maybe just a way to hold me accountable haha. Let's get started!
1. Go hiking at least once. I have learned that I actually really like hiking mainly from going to Marfa a lot. I don't typically like going outside that much but I have enjoyed hiking when I've been in the past. My thing is that it can't be that hot and it can't be crazy long.
2. Invite friends over frequently. I want to make an effort to hang out with more friends this year. I've made a lot of new friends this past year even if we're not super close but I want to change that. I think I get scared to invite friends over if I've never hung out with them before because I'm scared they will say no. I'm going to try to get over that and invite some new friends.
3.  Eat healthily. For a while, I had a thing going with eating healthy but it has kind of gone downhill in the past month. Especially since I'll have more time over the next few months I really want to try to get back into that habit of just choosing the healthy thing even if it is a bit harder.
4. Post every/every other Saturday on my youtube channel. This summer I'm going to commit to working on my youtube channel and just growing it. I really like youtube and so far I've had a lot of fun with it. I don't think it will ever be my main channel (#bloggerforlife) though so don't get scared or anything. If you would like I just recently uploaded two videos, a room tour and a fun best friend tag, and it would make me super happy if you could check out both!
5. Post either every day/every other day on Instagram. Fun fact I recently hit 1k on my insta and it made me super happy! When I first got an account I posted literally every day. Yes, the posts weren't the absolute best but they were still ok. With summer I want to try to post every day again but this time hopefully with some better posts.
6. Make the most out of/have fun at the camps I'm going too. This summer I'm going to two camps. Number one an Algebra camp I have to go to so that I can take Algebra next year. Probably boring but I'm trying to be not so sour about it. Second an engineering campo at where my dad teaches. I'm pretty excited about that one. My dad said they do stuff like program robots and do cool experiments which I think will be super cool. Kind of annoyingly I will be one of the youngest people there so I'm not sure how that will go???
7. Commit to Girl Boss Teen Tribe. I've mentioned it on here but I'm part of an awesome group of girls where we share tips on our blog,  do features on Instagram,  and we're starting an email list! Over this past year, I haven't been doing much to help honestly but I really want to work on it this summer.
8. Decide what I'm going to do with this blog. I have been saying for a while that this summer I would change to WordPress but now I'm not sure?? Is it worth it?? How exactly would I do that?? Even if I don't move to WordPress I do want to change up my design a bit. Plus I really want to get my own domain and possibly change the name. I don't at all have a plan so I need to make one and then execute it. If I do end up changing to Wordpress I'll probably need help doing that so if anyone wants to help please contact me haha.
9. Do at least 5 collabs. I love collabs because I get to interact with others and get content in front of a new audience so I really really want to do. Plus I want to do some that aren't just on my blog like maybe on Youtube or Instagram. If you do want to collab again please contact me!
10. Say yes and be present. Just be open to new things and experiences and surroundings. Get in some maybe uncomfortable situations. I never do that. Like ever. If there is even a chance I could be wrong or something could go wrong I won't do it. I want to try to change that. If I never take risks I won't ever get anywhere. I realize that but I don't ever really act on it. I'm going to try and change that this summer.

What's something fun you're doing this summer? What's on your bucket list? What kind of posts do you want to see from me this summer? Do you want to collab (contact me!!)?
