What To Do When "Loving Your Body" Is Hard | Guest Post

I'm really excited today because a super super cool blogger is doing a guest post! She is always talking about being body positive and self love and she is just so inspiring to me. Today she has written up an awesome article about What To Do When "Loving Your Body" Is Hard, which I think is something we can all relate to. :)

Over 80% of women in America want to lose weight. We live in a culture fixated on looks, size, and constantly aspiring to be a smaller size. If you’ve ever struggled to love your body, you’re not alone, and it’s not your fault. From a young age we are fed lies about what “healthy” looks like. It’s incredibly difficult to shed years and years of myths that have been ruthlessly drilled in our heads.

So, what is diet culture?
Diet culture is the idea that :
  • Being skinny is the healthiest way to live
  • You need to lose weight if you don’t fit into society’s ideal look of a woman/man
  • Having “fat” is bad and means you are unhealthy
  • There is an ideal attractive body shape (ex. Slim thick)

If you want more information about diet culture be sure to check out my YouTube video all about it!

We see evidence of diet culture everywhere. Such as magazine having one body type, advertisements for weight loss, and the non-stop pressure to conform to a certain size. “Slim Thick” is the latest body “ideal” shape that has been pushed.

Diet culture pushes a cycle onto people that goes like this :

It’s safe to say that the diet industry profits off of making young women feel insecure.
On “Unearth My Roar”, it’s all about empowerment. Dieting promotes restriction, which is the OPPOSITE of uplifting. Here are my TOP THREE TIPS to feeling amazingly confident. Because, you’re worth it.

  1. What defines someone’s worth?
Think of three people you admire. And go through these line of questions.
  • What do you find admirable about ______?
  • Is it their body or their achievements/attributes?

For example, you could use Ellen, Oprah, Michelle Obama, or any other icons.
These people have become memorable because of who they are, and what they have done. Their body and looks do not define them. Even when you meet someone for the first time, your impression is based off of how their personality and nothing to do their weight.
So, your WORTH comes from the inside. And, your personality’s pretty dope.

2. Increase the body diversity into your life.
We are constantly only seeing one type of body. Thin & Tall. To break the cycle, we should expose ourselves to more than one body type. It shows that we come in all shapes & sizes and that’s something to embrace. If you’re interested, check out my Instagram to get more inspiration for starting on this journey of self love, and more recommendations for body-posi bloggers.

3. Taco bout it…
Yes! Talk about it over tacos, or pizza, or WHENEVER. Taco Tuesday, anybody? Seriously, talking about it is the first step to healing.

“There is nothing more powerful than vulnerability.”

If you think you’re alone, I promise you aren’t. Seek out a trustworthy friend, or a family member, or even a school counselor. Just be honest about your struggles and it will lift the weight off of you. Also, my DMs are always open. Sometimes you just need to have someone to listen. What step are you going to take today to love yourself?

10 Easy Ways To Be Healthier In Your Everyday Life

Everyone probably wants to be healthier. You want to be that super healthy person who goes to the gym every day and and just eats green juice and smoothie bowls. But well. You're not that person. And it's not like you can just become that person overnight. That's totally cool. In this post I'm just going to be showing you 10 ways you can be healthier in your everyday life. They're not hard but will make a difference in the long run. Let's get started!!

*This post is sponsored by Sixspokes but all opinions are of course my own :)

1. Healthy Snacks

Instead of reaching for those hot chips or fritos maybe reach for a just as tasty, but healthier, alternative. The key is finding something that you like and always having it on hand. For me I usually either eat frozen grapes, veggie chips, or nuts.

2. Use A Water Bottle

Awesome for the environment and youuu. I've noticed when I'm using a water bottle I literally drink more. Maybe this is because It's easier to carry around or because it just carries more water. Either way it works. And there are so so many benefits of drinking more water.

3. No Bun Or Just One

The next time you're eating a burger or literally anything with a bun/bread, think about it. Does it reallllllly add that much? Lately I've been only using one bun or just none and most of the time the bread to stuff ratio is too much anyway.

4. Make Breakfast

Don't just eat cereal. That is of course ok. But on those days when you have more time, take advantage of it. Remember, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Make a smoothie or make yourself some scrambled eggs. Both super easy, not time consuming, will make you happy, and is so much healthier than cereal. If you're feeling more like pancakes or french toast than fruit!!You can always add fruit. It's tasty, easy, and of course healthyyyyy.

5. Bike Places

I mean like how cool do I look in that photo? I want to bike more just to look that cool. Once again shoutout to Six Spokes for sponsoring this post! They sent me the jacket and the colorful socks which I both love soooo much.

Ok so back to the actual health benefits haha. If you're going somewhere pretty close but that is maybe too long of a distance to walk or you just want to get there fast, think about biking instead of using the car. Soooo much better for both you and the environment. Plus biking can be super relaxing. It's a nice way to escape from the world for even just a couple of minutes.

6. Set Alarms To Wake Up + Go To Bed

It has been proven that if you wake up and go to bed at the same time every day than you will be happier and more rested and healthier. Plus when you go to bed earlier and wake up earlier you have so much more time to be productive and get things done.

7. Hang Out With People Who Make You Happy

You might be confused, or if you're of an introvert, rolling your eyes, but you're mental health seriously affects your physical health. Just surround yourself with other humans who relate and understand you. Also tryyyy. These amazing humans will probs not come to you. Making friends and keeping those friendships take work.

8. Go Outside

If you're doing something that could be done outside, then go outside! Maybe you're reading a book or working on your computer or doing homework. It's always good to get more vitamin D and this will boost your energy. If you happen to have a patio with a cover and a fan that is pretty much the ideal haha. If not though umbrellas!! And hand held fans!! And water! Great items.

9. Wash Your Hands And Carry Around Hand Sanitizer

Just about everyone seems to be sick right now (currently flu season) and one way to make sure you don't get sick is to wash your hands as much as you can!! I'm sure you've forgotten to wash your hand before meals a couple times. Just try not to. There are some places where you can't really wash your hands, say school, but you can use hand sanitizer!!

10. Don't Get On Your Phone In The Morning

Whenever I get on my phone directly in the morning it basically delays my day. I just want to stay in bed and scroll through insta instead of getting up. A good rule and one that I use is that I have to get ready for the day (clothes and brush teeth and all that) before I get on my phone. A nice little time of just peace.

I really hope you guys enjoyed that and that it helped you. I would lovvvve to do a part two so if you want one, make sure to share this post with all of your friends and comment down below your tips for being healthier. Once again thank you to Six Spokes for sponsoring this post and for sending me the super cute jacket and socks. :)

Creator Spotlight | Vaishnavi From Water Under The Bridge

Another collaboration post this time a fun creator spotlight with Vaishnavi from Water Under The Bridge. She's a super coolio newbie blogger (although she's been in the blogging universe for about tow years) and I like her blog. That might just be because she mentioned me in one of her posts and said she liked my blog when she emailed me but DETAILS DETAILS. Let's get started with her interview and welcome her to the blog!

What is your name and what does it mean? If you're named after someone who is it and what does that person mean to you?
So my name is Vaishnavi and I was named after Saraswathi, the Hindu god of education and arts! But since it's hard for some people to pronounce they just call me Vaish. Pretty cool if I do say so myself.

Oh my gosh that's so cool!! What is your blog name and what does it mean? How did you come up with up?
My blog name is Written in Stars. I'm a little.. okay very obsessed with Doctor Who, and the show inspired me to dive deeper and delve farther than any one's ever gone. So Written In Stars just means that my story will live on with the stars in space- The Final Frontier... well not that dramatic but yeah :p

Haha I love that. :) How do you spend an average day?
Besides school since it takes up much of my time, I feel really energized in the morning so I like to either work or read in my garden. And okay, I do have to admit that I feel lazy in afternoons, so I just relax and either watch anime or read some more. In the evening I either blog, journal, or listen to music. Basically like a third of my day is spent reading cause I'm a bookdragon. Really. Sometimes I feel like I can just live off books and spend all of my time doing that. Wait, does that make me a vampire?

I think you're a book vampire. It's official now. What are your favorite hobbies?
Reading is my favorite thing to do when I have down time. Otherwise, I like listening to rock, making collages and practicing my drawing, chatting with my friends, and taking pictures (I'm super into photography).

Fun!! What is your favorite thing about the blogging community?
Wow, where do I begin? Well when I first discovered the blogging/bookish community, I was kind of baffled at how everyone was like family. Everyone was really supportive of each other so that was awesome. Also I feel like while every blogger has their own individual personality, you can all relate with each other :)

AWWW yess same!! We're all a big family and it's great. :) :) How do you come up with blog posts and how do you usually go about writing one?
I totally don't publish my post at the very last minute.  Okay just kidding. Well...
I feel like ideas just come to me whenever I'm doing something I like or have never tried before. For example, I wrote a post on deconstruction- something that I've never done before and it was tons of fun to write. Whenever I have an idea I make note of it, so if I'm stuck I can just check it out. As for writing a post, I just let the words flow. I usually just ramble and free-write about the subject and edit it all later. I add pictures and formatting, and boom! A blog post is born!

What does your blog mean to you and why would you say you blog?
My blog is like an outlet for me to express my thoughts. I blog because I want to tell a story- many blogs I read inspire me, so I hope that maybe I can inspire others. Plus, I want to meet new people!

Meeting people is one of my fave things about blogging. If you could hang out/meet any living person for an hour who would it be?
I was not expecting this to be so hard. There are so many people I could choose. I feel like most of them would be adults, so sticking with people around my age I would probably want to meet Ella Fields. If you don't know, Ella is an awesome filmmaker- she writes, edits, and shoots short films on awareness. Every creation has an impact, you know? She would probably be someone I'd hang out with.
I don't know who that is but wow she sounds so cool! I'll have to check her out! If you had to choose a career now what would it be?
Photography/journalism! I feel like these are two things I love to do. If I could, I'd be a travel photographer, because I'd also want to travel the world one day.

OH MY GOSH SAME. What do you see happening with your blog in the next year? What do you want to happen?
Hmm, well I see myself continuing to blog for one thing, because I usually stop what I start. I hope that I can be genuine in whatever I make and not be afraid to be myself! I also hope that I can create a small community within my blog and meet amazing new people.

I hope you keep blogging to. :) Anything else you would like to share?
That's pretty much it. Thanks for interviewing me Nabila! Oh wait. I need to know- what are your thoughts on activism and pizza. Yep, a totally random question.

Of course girly! And activism and pizza are probably some of the best things on the planet.

If you want to see more of her feel free too heck out her google+, Pinterest, and of course her blog! I love collabs so if you ever want to do anything feel free to email at nabilaeve@gmail.com or dm me on instagram!

8 Gift Ideas That Teens Will Totally Love This Holiday Season For Cheap

My first holiday post of the season! Because the holidays are coming up that means that the rush to get people presents are coming up. Maybe it's christmas or hanukkah or some other random holiday no one knows about. I DON'T KNOW. Anyway chances are you will be buying a present for someone, so like the amazing person I am, I thought I would help you out. Today I'm going to be listing 8 presents that teens will love! None of these are too expensive and I'm going to try and list things a lot of people will love. :) This is a collab with the wonderful Maryam from Infinitely A Day Dreamer. I actually found her through insta and she's so cute! After you're done reading this make sure to go check out her post with a bunch of fun present ideas for the creative people in your life!

*this post contains affiliate links which means if you buy something through one of my links I will gain a small comision with no extra cost to you

Alright let's get started!

Popsockets are freaking great!! I have one on my phone and seriously the amount of times it has probably saved me from a nose injury because the phone was going to fall on my face, is to many to count. It's a cute accessory that you can add to a phone especially if someone has a more plain phone case and it's super cute!

Teens have acne. And also just general skin problems. It's not fun. I know from experience. I also know that I love masks!! I've used a couple face masks and they're both fun to use and also help your skin. A lot of masks really only work for certain skin types though so if you don't know what problem the person who your buying for has, maybe think of getting something more general.

Rings are super fun, you can get cheap ones, and it's also kind of hard to mess up on them. I feel like if you get pretty much any simple ring (we're not thinking engagement ring here we're thinking more of what I linked) it's gonna be pretty cute. I have been getting more and more into rings and I know a lot of people around me, who has as well.

Most teens have a phone and if they have a phone they need a phone case! And even if someone already has a phone case that definitely doesn't mean they can't have another one. There are soooooo many cute phone cases on amazon it's kind of crazy. Annnnd having a cute phone case will totally lift your mood! It's a little energy booster everytime you pull out your phone.

I got a mini backpack for my birthday and I'm obsessed with it! It's super easy to carry everywhere but not too big that it's weird and fits everything I need it to. This is a super practical gift to get someone! Plus it seems like all mini backpacks are cute and definitely a cool way to spice up an outfit.

I've been getting some more cute mugs lately and ahhhh I love. There are a bunch of fun personalized one so you can totally find one that your friend will think is super funny or cute.

I recently learned this was a thing but there are a bunch of cool stuff to spike up chargers. There are cute charger protectors that are animals and different colored chargers and just so much. Definitely a cute fun gift for a tech savvy friend.

No one can ever not want another cute graphic tee. Like seriously. T-shirts are cool gifts because they're not too expensive but it's still kind of big because it's a clothing item one might wear like every other day (hopefully with washing in the middle). You can might graphic at pretty much any clothing store or online!

I super hoped you liked that! If you want more ideas of what to get your teen friend for the holidays refer to my birthday wishlist where I list like a thousand things I want haha. Comment down below something you super duper want/are hoping to get this holiday season and also something you're planning on getting a friend!

9. Reach 10k on any platform
I know that's a lot but I think over timmmmme I might be able to. Basically I just want to be famous haha.

10. Get the @nabila on something
Ok so Nabila is a super uncommon name  (well in the US but details details) but it's common enough that it is taken on lets say instagram. Or the nabila.com. The .com is actually for sale (I think that's what it says when I look it up) and I kind of want to buy it but I don't know what to do???

Hope you loved thattttttttt. Make sure to go check out Lexie's blog and comment down below one thing on your bucket list!

My Essentials For Fall

This is my first collab of the month and I've decided to do fall essentials with the awesome Lanie! It's so fall now. Like it's november y'all. Winter starts in december, we don't have long. I thought it would be fun to roundup some of our top essentials and just things we need for this fun season. :)

*there are some links in this posts that are affiliate links which means if you buy something through the link I will get a small comision to no extra cost to you

Blanket

One of my favorite thing ever probably year round is cozying up in a blanket but it's even better in the colder months. I am literally under a blanket as I type this. They just make me feel so cozy and calm.

Use my code "hottowncoolgirl" to get 15% off

Cute sweaters

Sweaters are freaking great y'all. I think some people don't realize the greatness of the sweater. It saddens me honestly. Like that's not cool. You can slip on this thing which is probs supes cute so you'll be even cuter than you already are, you'll be warm, and it's comfy. Seriously the amount of times I've worn that one sweater that my grandma made for me is too many to count.

Use my code "hottowncoolgirl" to get 15% off

Hoodie

I was just talking about sweaters but hoodies are a whollllle other level. Hoodies don't even compare. For most of the year I like sweaters better because I can actually easily take them off easily where with hoodies I really can't. For those like two days that it's actually cold in houston though? YEAH HOODIES ARE MY BEST FRIEND. They can be so cute and are just so cozy which is I guess the theme word for this post haha.

Hot drink

I have been drinking these hair hot chocolate things that cocoa locks sent me recently like every night and it's probably not good?? But I'm still going to because it tastes really good and it's supposed to be good for your hair so like IT'S HEALTHY OK DON'T JUDGE ME. I also drink (herbal) tea a lotttt. I just love warm drinks especially at night cause it calms me down and is good when it's cold.

Something orange

Fall is the season of halloween and just all things orange so for fall of course you need orange things. It could be a whole t-shirt or maybe it's room decor. A mini pumpkin alllllways works. I have this cute little hair clip that has a little spider on it and its orange and black that I've been wearing lately that I think is super fun and just puts me in the mood.

Leggings

I lovvvvve leggings so much!! I actually don't have that many though so like if anyone wants to change that I would be soooo fine with. Leggings are perfect for fall when it's too cold for shorts but it's either not cold enough or you're just not feeling, lets say, pants. Plus you can layer them and they're just super comfy.

Boots

I love boots of allll shapes and sizes (shoutout to my two pairs of converse boots that have now both broken, someone get me new ones please and thanks) but I've especially been loving my booties I've been wearing a lot lately!! You can dress them up and down and just ahh I love.

Yayyy that was fun. I hope y'all love that! Make sure to go check out Lanie and all of her fall essentials. :) Comment down below what your fall essentials are!
